“This may only be a dream of mine, but I think it can be made real.” - Ella Baker

A creative, critical thinking Black woman who vacillates between Afrofuturism and Afropessimism (depends on the time of day), Linetta Alexander Islam is an experienced educator and school leader. She is an alum of UW-Milwaukee with a BS in English, a post-bac certification in education, and National Louis University with a Masters in Administration and Supervision. She holds a renewable educational license for 1-8 teacher, and lifetime licenses for director of instruction and principal. For the last fifteen years, she has worked in educational institutions to advance adolescents and adults both academically and socially to overcome the challenges of inequity in Black density schools in the city of Milwaukee. She is currently working with schools, foundations, and community-based organizations to implement dignity-based processes within their work.

Linetta is also an accomplished writer and performer, having written three stage plays, produced in the Milwaukee area. Using writing as a tool to heal herself then others, she published a memoir, "Honey and Vinegar" in 2012, sharing her journey of grief and recovery after the untimely passing of her father. In 2021, she directed Lauren Gunderson's "Toil and Trouble" as well as a four person adaptation of "Macbeth". Making the most of working remotely, she completed her first children's book, "Ella Baker", available on amazon.com, and is currently in final revisions of her first fiction novel, "Zyanism". All of her works are published through her own small press publishing company, Rebirth Ink.

"I am fascinated by ideas, searching for opportunities to use my creative, problem-solving skills to imagine new beginnings, using ancient principles and ideations to empower youth and activate the village mindset to support all children. As an enthusiastic educator and performance artist, I use my communication skills and community mindset to foster positive relationships with all stakeholders by utilizing creativity, communication and collaboration thus resulting in an environment that embraces conflict as a community building learning opportunity." - Linetta Alexander Islam
